FAQ

How much does Emailey cost?

Emailey’s pricing structure couldn’t be more simple. There are no setup fees, no monthly fees and no hidden fees.

For each campaign you send with more than 5 recipients, you pay a flat delivery fee of £3 plus 1.5p per recipient. Any campaigns you send to 5 or less people are free of charge.

We also have monthly accounts available.

How do I pay for Emailey

We accept all major credit cards. You can also pay via PayPal.

Are there any hidden fees?

No, Emailey has absolutely no hidden fees. There is no account setup or monthly access fee (which some other email service providers charge). You only pay for what you use. £3 per campaign delivery fee + 1.5p per subscriber.

With the current cost of stamps in the UK right now, you’ll find that these costs equate to a very small fraction of the cost of sending out promotional marketing material by the traditional post system.

Why would I pay to send my email newsletter?… Can’t I just use Outlook?

The main reason you should use a paid email marketing tool like Emailey is because of the reports you’ll get and our ability to get your emails delivered.

The Emaily reporting suite gives you a huge amount of invaluable data and information. This can be used to create business reports, to understand your audience better, to help improve your marketing strategy and to help with any lead nurturing programmes you may be managing.

Emailey also gives you a sign up form which you can add to your website and even Facebook page.

As mentioned above, Emailey goes to great lengths to make sure that your emails are delivered.

Can I try Emailey without having to pay first?

Yep! All Emailey accounts are free to open and you can send an email campaign to up to 5 subscribers completely free of charge. You’ll get all reports and functionality as you would if you were sending to 500.

How long does it take to get an Emailey account setup?

Once you submit our request form, one of our team will contact you to complete the process. You can be up and running in the same business day.

Once you’ve got your account created you’ll need to upload your contact list, arrange a template (either upload your own, build your own, select from one of our free templates or we can create one for you.

How can email marketing help my business?

Email marketing is one of the most powerful methods for increasing sales and building and maintaining strong relationships with your customers and prospects. If you stay in touch with your existing customers, you’ll be able to further nurture that relationship, and encourage them to make repeat purchases. Offers, discounts and communication relating to sales are always popular and effective.

Research has shown that email marketing provides an estimated Return on Investment (ROI) of roughly $42 for every $1 you spend. So can you afford to NOT being doing email marketing?

What if I want to stop using Emailey?

There’s no requirement to do anything if you want to stop using Emailey. There are no cancellation fees or notices. Feel free to export your subscriber list to use elsewhere.

We will keep your account open for 12 months, after which it will be closed and you’ll lose your historical reports and data.

If you want to re-start using Emailey before those 12 months, just log in as usual and create and send your email. If you want to start using Emailey again after those 12 months, please get in touch and we’ll open you up with another account free of charge.

Is there any software to download?

No. Emailey is all online – accessible through a username and password from any computer with an internet connection.

You can also access your reports through a smart phone.

Can I see the free templates you have on offer?

Yes, we have them all listed online. Just click here!

What formats can my email campaigns be in?

Your email campaigns need to be in either HTML, or plain text format in order to be sent out. It’s not possible to send in any other format, like PDF or publisher. Also, you can’t have any attachments to your email.

There are many tools to help you create HTML, but we do not recommend using a word processing or desktop publishing tool to create HTML, as they often generate very messy code, and will cause you lots of problems.

If you need to find an HTML editing tool, here are a few good options:

For Windows

  • CoffeeCup HTML Editor
  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • TopStyle Lite/Pro

For OS X

  • Coda
  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • RapidWeaver
  • TextMate

The key to writing HTML that will work in an email is to keep it as simple as possible.

Can I personalise my campaigns?

Yes, it’s very easy to include your readers name in the subject line or body of your newsletter. This can be done easily by using these tags.

  • First Name (everything up to the first space character) – [firstname, fallback=friend]
  • Full Name – [fullname,fallback=friend]

When personalising your emails it is important to remember to include a fallback. You may not have all of your readers details in your database and you don’t want any blank spaces in your email. A fallback will fill in the space when the field is empty. For example, using the fallback “friend” will make sure that any personalisation where you using a readers name and one is not listed in your database, it will appear like this:

  • Dear [firstname,fallback=friend]
  • Dear John
  • Dear friend

Will my campaigns pass Spam filters and Junk Mail Folders?

Emailey has a tool which enables you to run a spam filter test before you send your campaign. This test shows whether or not the email will pass widely used spam filters. It’s normally the combination of words and images used in emails that cause problems with spam filters. If you’ve got any worries regarding your campaigns, we advise you run it through these tests first.

Can I see how many opens and clicks I got?

Yes – and more! For each email campaign you send, Emailey will automatically and instantly generate a campaign report showing you how many people opened, what they clicked, who bounced, who unsubscribed, plus more. Read more about the reporting tools here.

What kind of support is offered?

Emailey has a great deal of helpful information built into the system and accessible through the Help button at the top of the page. In addition, you can email us with questions or problems and we will be happy to help and resolve any problems you may have.

Can users unsubscribe from my email?

Yes. We’ve set Emailey up so every email sent will contain a single-click unsubscribe link allowing any subscribers to remove themselves quickly and easily. Not only is this a common courtesy but a requirement under UK law since 2003.

What is an unsubscribe page and why should I use it?

When sending out a campaign, we require that you include an unsubscribe link, which is a way your recipients can opt-out of your email list with a single click. When they click this unsubscribe link, they will be removed from the appropriate list in your account and then will be displayed a web page explaining to them that they have successfully been unsubscribed from the list.

By adding an unsubscribe page to your subscriber lists, the system will automatically redirect to this customised page after the subscriber has been removed. The unsubscribe confirmation page is usually a page on your site which matches your existing look and feel. You can set your own unsubscribe page by visiting the “Unsubscribe settings” for any given list.

And if you don’t want to create your own unsubscribe page, you don’t have to. We will simply redirect the user to a generic unsubscribe page letting them know they have successfully been removed from the list.

How does Emailey integrate with my website?

There are two main ways. Firstly, you can place simple forms on your website to allow visitors to subscribe to your email lists. Second, you can automatically display all of your past email newsletters so that website visitors can see them.

This display is handled automatically no need to stress.

Can I manage my email lists through Emailey?

Yes, you manage your own database and contact lists through Emailey.

There are many ways you can import your data and add new subscribers:

  • You can upload an existing email list you have (through various formats including Excel, .csv, .txt, vCard files and Zip compressed files)
  • You can also easily create a form to be used on your website to automatically build new lists when someone visits your website.

You can also have multiple lists and filterns within those lists … for example a list for existing customers, a list for partners, and a list for suppliers.

How do I add a link to a web version of my campaign?

You can use a simple tag to generate a personalized link to a web based version of your campaign for every recipient. This means that even if they’re viewing the web version, we still track how many times they checked it out, what links they clicked on, etc.

In your HTML code, just use the tag  and and we’ll do the rest.

How many bounced email addresses are normal?

Even double opt-in lists can experience high bounce levels the first time they are used. The first mailing to an opt-in list typically experiences a 20% bounce back rate, so don’t be alarmed if yours is in that range.

If you have a significantly higher bounce rate, we recommend you look more deeply into how the list was gathered, how frequently it has been used and how bounces and unsubscribes have been handled in the past.

What does it mean when a subscriber has opened my campaign multiple times?

There are several reasons why a subscriber may appear to have opened your email many times.

  • Most likely is that your subscriber simply did open your campaign multiple times. It is very common for people to open an email more than once – they are interested in your email and can potentially come back to look at it many times.
  • A subscriber could have a “Preview Pane” feature enabled in his or her email client. In this case, every time the campaign email was clicked or scrolled to in the “Preview Pane”, and the images are downloaded, the subscriber’s address displays as having opened the campaign.
  • If the subscriber uses the email client to “forward” the email campaign instead of using our Forward to a Friend feature, any subsequent opens by those recipients show as another “open” under the original subscriber.

The Unique HTML Opened count in your Campaign Snapshot indicates the total number of unique opens for that entire campaign and does not take multiple opens into account.

Why should I test my campaign before I send it?

When you are creating your email campaign, you’ll see it in a browser preview. Once you send it out though, that same email will be viewed in any number of different ways.

Desktop email applications like Outlook or Apple Mail, web based email like Gmail and Hotmail and increasingly on mobile phones and devices like the iPad.

Your email could look quite different in an email client than it does in a browser, and display differently in Outlook than it does in Gmail. To further complicate things, some web based email programs actually work differently depending on the browser you access them through.

The kinds of differences you might see include padding and margin changes, spacing between elements, background images not showing up, CSS being ignored and much more.

So it is important that you check to make sure your email is readable and appealing on as many email clients as you can. That’s not to say it should look identical, but it should be usable.

You can test your emails either through the built in ‘send a test email’ function to view the email in your own email platform.

For a more thorough test, you can optionally choose to run a ‘Complete design and spam test” – you’ll get to see screenshots of exactly how your email will look in more than 20 of the most popular desktop, web and mobile email clients like Outlook 2007, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail, Lotus Notes, iPhone, BlackBerry and many more.

In addition, your email will be run through major spam filters to give you some idea of how they will treat your campaign once it has been sent.

How do I make sure that I don’t email a subscriber who has reported my email as spam?

We take care of this for you by permanently removing the subscriber from your account automatically. This is a standard industry practice and it saves you from accidentally adding this subscriber to your list and inviting another spam complaint.

Do I have to know HTML to use Emailey?

No you don’t have to know any HTML to use Emailey. It’s so easy to use – it’s much like creating a document in Word. You type your text, add links and images and we handle the rest behind the scenes.
